Chrono24, the world’s biggest specialist secondary market platform for watches, has added a feature that lets people try on watches using virtual reality technology on their smartphones.

The service is currently only available for iPhone users, but the company is working on solving the technical challenges of making it work with Android, which is more difficult because it is used by so many different smartphone manufacturers.

For customers to try on virtual watches, they need to download the Chrono24 app where there is an option to print out a tracking bracelet that is worn on the wrist.

The markings on the bracelet allow the software to place the watch in the right position, after which the iPhone‘s camera is pointed at the bracelet and a selected watch appears.

By moving the camera, it shows  the watch from different angles including the band and clasp.

Watches can be seen on the wrist or on a flat surface where they can be flipped over to look at the back — a great feature for glass-backed pieces.

The service launches with Chrono24’s most popular watches including the Rolex Daytona, Rolex Submariner Date, Rolex Datejust, Omega Seamaster 300, Omega Speedmaster Professional, and Omega Seamaster Diver 300M.
