We explore the Teslasuit, a two-piece bodysuit that creates a fully immersive environment that erases the difference between the real and virtual worlds.
Back in October 2018, the whispers and excitement about the Teslasuit got that little bit louder as curiosity about the wearable device grew. Officially unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January 2019 gave many tech enthusiasts first-hand the opportunity to test the unique smart suit and demo the solution.
New Generation of Smart Clothing
Named a CES 2019 Innovation Awards Honoree in Virtual and Augmented Reality, the Teslasuit is a full-body haptic suit that enhances virtual and augmented reality experience through the synergy of haptics, motion tracking, and biometry. Working with engineers, designers, programmers, medical doctors and AR specialists to come up with a smart textile two-piece full bodysuit that consists of a jacket and trousers.
The Teslasuit’s haptic technology allows transmitting touch and is a great way of making VR experience deeper, immersive, and more realistic. It is actually an additional channel of communication and a new way of making VR experience deeper, immersive, and more realistic. Electrostimulation based haptics is proven to increase immersion and improve learning. By means of muscles and stimulation of nerve endings, the human body becomes more alert and active, which favours learning.
Intended for integration into a diverse range of enterprise applications and training solutions, Sergei Nossoff, Chief Executive Officer said: “Teslasuit as a platform solution for XR Training generated great interest and demand from enterprises. Teslasuit offers an integrated approach to solve corporate training requirements. The synergy of several systems allows for simulating conditions more realistically and to monitor the state of well-being of the trainee.”
Stretchable, breathable, durable and even washable, the makers of the Teslasuit have found a way of integrating new technologies in the smart fabrics to fit the body like a second skin. The device is made of smart textile that transfers sensations from virtual world to the human body through tiny electrical impulses controlled by an on-board mini-computer (Control Unit). It tracks the entire body motion with high precision and frequency. It also allows the user to feel the environment temperature changes thanks to the an advanced climate control system.
Available in XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, XXXL and tailormade, some of the key features include a haptic feedback system, motion capture system, climate control system, wireless capabilities, a control unit and a rechargeable long-life battery.
Collaborating With Partners
Teslasuit has been collaborating with partners, offering developers, business partners in various industries to try and evaluate the possibilities of VR Training. On their futuristic VR session, which had them experience Astronaut VR Training in Teslasuit Ilya Simonov, Director of CROC Virtual Reality Center said: “We see a big potential and demand for technology that enables users to get haptic feedback and immerse themselves into virtual reality.” Continuing, “This is especially true for the manufacturing sector, where companies are striving to obtain ergonomic and handy VR tools for training purposes. In partnership with Teslasuit, we are ready to take part in this product development and tailoring for our customers, i.e. the largest enterprises in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and energy sectors.”
With the potential applications for this technology extending well beyond gaming, Tesla is currently intending the suit to be integrated into diverse enterprise applications and training solutions. For now, the future of the Teslasuit is headed in the direction of being used for VR Training and in games, entertainment, fitness and sports, wellness and healthcare.
