Ever wished you could surf with the likes of Steph Gilmore and Dave Rastovich? Thanks to virtual reality, now you’re one step closer.

As part of Teton Gravity Research + Taylor Steele’s project, Proximity, four segments were filmed using virtual reality to bring the project to life for the viewer in a way that no other medium can.

In this segment, Gilmore and Rastovich surf Baja. The viewer can check out a full 360-degree vantage of their adventure, from driving along dusty desert roads to catching a wave with the two surfers.

“It’s a new way of telling stories and the future of film making,” Taylor Steele commented on the utilization and inclusion of VR in his latest film project Proximity. “You’re engulfed, you’re there physically and you’ll feel like you’re there with us.” The Proximity project has been a mult-media experience including a full length film, VR experience, photo book and art gallery.

According to a press release on the project, VR footage was captured using the Go Pro Omni All Inclusive and six Go Pro Hero4 Black cameras. At last weeks World Premiere of Proximity, attendee’s were able to watch four different VR edits through Samsung google technology.
