The Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, which will take place from March 14 to 16, will unfold in 360-degree virtual reality this year.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the World Games has partnered with digital creative studio, CreatorUp, to develop 360-degree virtual reality experiences that offer fans an opportunity to engage with Special Olympics athletes from around the world. A three-part film series is being developed to cater to fans and offer live 360-degree coverage of the opening ceremony.

Fans can head to the Festival Area at ADNEC from 12 to 20 March to watch the series on Samsung VR headsets.

The (three-part) ‘Meet the Determined’ film series will address three separate themes like UAE Now, 50 years of Special Olympics, and Athletes at home.

Recently launched, UAE Now – the first in the pre-Games Meet The Determined film series, looks at the story of the United Arab Emirates and how the nation is gearing up to host the largest sports and humanitarian event on the planet this year.

Throughout the games, a live daily one-hour show will be broadcast on YouTube from 6-7pm looking at all the competition action and other cultural events taking place on the side-lines of the World Games. The show will be hosted by UAE cultural expert and social media influencer Max of Arabia.

Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 is an integral part of local, national and regional plans to expand opportunities for people of determination in line with Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s shared vision of a unified and inclusive society. This will be the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world in 2019. From 14 to 21 March, over 7,500 athletes and 3,000 coaches, representing more than 190 nations, will participate in 24 officially sanctioned Olympic-style sports in world-class venues throughout Abu Dhabi and Dubai.‫

This will also be the most unified Games in the 50-year history of the Special Olympics movement, with inclusion of people of determination with intellectual disabilities in every aspect of the event.
