Xiaomi is likely to launch a new VR product at its May 31 launch event. Lei Jun, the founder, Chairman, and CEO for Xiaomi teased the launch of this upcoming product on his official Weibo account. According to the teaser, the company will likely to launch a new VR headset, possibly something similar to the standalone VR headset with Google DayDream. The teaser poster that was shared by Jun shows a person standing out on an empty piece of land looking up in the sky.
The person in the poster seems to be wearing something on his head which is emitting light up in the sky. The poster also includes a giant Whale just about the person, floating in the sky like a hologram projection from the light. The caption of the poster states that the company is working on making everyone experience and enjoy the fun of virtual reality. It also teases that there may be more to the story while inviting people to attend the “annual flagship conference” that is scheduled for May 31st.
Jun added “New Xiaomi VR Products” while sharing the teaser poster possibly hinting at multiple VR-related products at the May 31st launch event. This new teaser comes hours after the company teased that it will be launching the Mi 8 in eight more countries in addition to China. The company also confirmed that it will launch the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 along with the launch of Mi 8 and a special edition Mi 8 device.
It comes after a report pointed out that the upcoming special edition Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC along with a dual camera setup with AI-powered capabilities. The teaser also revealed that the device is likely to pack a 20-megapixel camera module on the front for selfies.
