LA-based startup Mira is aiming to make augmented reality more accessible for consumers. The company has announced a new set of AR glasses that goes on sale for only $99.
The AR glasses work with an iPhone 7 and are designed as oversized lenses to produce holographic images by using a set of mirrors. It is a similar approach as Google Daydream or Samsung Gear VR, but for augmented reality.
Dubbed as “Prism” the low-cost AR glasses can be pre-ordered from the company’s website. Mira is planning on shipping the glasses for developers in the fall, followed by the consumer version by the end of 2017.
The LA-based company was founded in 2016 with an initial $1.5 million round of seed funding led by Sequoia Capital. Mira says, developers can use a Unity-based SDK developer kit to build apps for the headset. Apple ARKit developers will also be able to port over their apps to work with the Prism.
