Microsoft Brings Immersive Content To Edge

The company announces it's working on experimental support for WebVR, which follows already-pledged support for the standard by Mozilla and Google.

Microsoft's new Edge browser is the latest product that will give you something interesting to do with your VR headset.

The company announced Friday that its Edge browser, which is bundled in Windows 10, is getting experimental support for WebVR -- a developing standard that allows websites to support virtual reality headsets like the high-end Oculus Rift or the much lower-end Google Cardboard.

WebVR currently has some level of support in experimental builds of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, as well as inside Samsung's internet browser for the Gear VR headset. The addition of Microsoft's Edge shows some critical mass that developers will have to take into account as they decide whether it's worthwhile to create WebVR content.
