Sound Of VR #4: Klaus Nomi - The Cold Song
November 27, 2016

Based on the Cold Genius masterpiece aria from Henry Purcell's opera King Arthur composed in 1691, the Cold Song was re-baptized by Klaus Nomi when he interpretated it in 1980. The creation was very faithful to the original, with a slight electronic twist. Nomi's interpretation is one of the most captivating of Purcell's creation to date. Nomi was a big fan of what we call today cosplay; he created his own artificial reality that went well beyond the performance stage and invaded his everyday's life: Nomi was already living in a virtual world.

What power art thou
Who from below
Hast made me rise
Unwillingly and slow
From beds of everlasting snow

See'st thou not how stiff
And wondrous old
Far unfit to bear the bitter cold

I can scarcely move
Or draw my breath
I can scarcely move
Or draw my breath

Let me, let me,
Let me freeze again
Let me, let me
Freeze again to death
Let me, let me, let me
Freeze again to death...
