If there is one thing that you see today to feel utterly exhilarated, I recommend you see the enchantingly immersive exhibition on Vincent van Gogh at the digital art museum L’Atelier des Lumières. There is next to no chance that I will ever visit Paris, given my van Gogh-like penury but even a glimpse of it online here made my morning. For a few glorious moments I forgot my bill payment blues and was lost in van Gogh’s brilliant blues.
His works are projected on the walls of what was once a foundry. Since they are enlarged without losing any of the resolution, it is a breathtaking visual offering. I am sure it is quite an experience in person.
The only word of caution I have is to remember that most of van Gogh paintings are standard canvas size and even small in reality. So if you see this grand show before you see the actual works, you might feel strange. There is a big difference between an actual painting and its giant projection.
