Artsy put on a dazzling display for Art Basel guests with an immersive virtual reality show projected inside a beach dome with live music.
The event for the leading website for art gave guests a shared virtual reality experience projected on the inside of the Faena Art geodesic dome, powered by 360° projection, motion tracking, and avatar puppeteering with a performance by alt-R&B singer and producer ABRA.
Elena Soboleva, Artsy’s Curator of Special Projects, said of the show put on with Gucci, titled “Collective Reality”, “Virtual reality is a lonely experience because of the headset. We worked with artists including Rachel Rossin to create a shared, immersive experience to bring together the worlds of art, music and technology.”
One guest told her, “We’ve seen everything at Art Basel, artwork set on fire, a Terry Richardson party where everyone had to come naked, but this is by far the best thing I’ve seen.”
Guests taking in the show included hotelier Alan Faena and his partner Ximena Caminos, artists Chloe Wise, Mickalene Thomas, Ryan McGinness and Dustin Yellin; Artsy founder and CEO Carter Cleveland, co-founders of Artsy Dasha Zhukova and Wendi Deng Murdoch, plus famed photographer Mario Testino.
Artsy is a top resource for collecting art from 4,000 galleries, 700 museums, institutions, art fairs, and select auctions around the world.
