Magic Leap, which dazzled local public officials with the promise of innovations that could put Broward County on the technology map, has undergone some turnover at the top, including its chief marketing officer and head of communications.
On Friday, the Plantation-based company announced on its website that it had hired Brenda Freeman, a marketing professional with previous experience at National Geographic Channel, DreamWorks Animation, Turner Broadcasting, Viacom/MTV and Pepsico.
Freeman faces a number of challenges, as there has been a flurry of questions and criticisms from tech industry publications about whether Magic Leap has overstated the pace of its progress and used special effects in a technology demo for potential investors and employees.
Magic Leap hasn’t responded directly, except for an update posted on https://www.magicleap.com by founder and CEO Rony Abovitz on Dec. 9. He says the company completed its first “product equivalent” build and is about to start a “much bigger” one.
“Stay tuned – the fun is just beginning,” he says.
