World Of Tanks Dev Shows Off Tank Using MR
July 12, 2017

Today World of Tanks developer Wargaming released a video showcasing a Mixed Reality experience that they exhibited at TankFest 2017 at the Bovington Tank Museum.

The developer collaborated with the museum to restore an ultra-rare World War II tank Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61, nicknamed “Sturmtiger.” Then they created a mixed reality experience using World of Tanks assets and even a view of a map together with Microsoft HoloLens to have the tank look like it was entering the hangar, and showcasing the interior and mechanical features of the massive steel beast.

The video gives you a glimpse on what attendees at the show saw, including the Sturmtiger rolling into the hangar directly from a World of Tanks map, and a detailed view of the giant 380mm rocket-propelled shells it used to fire.

It’s certainly an interesting and “educational” view of using mixed reality, and you can check it at the bottom of the post.

Incidentally, if you’re interested in a completely different World of Tanks experience, Wargaming is running a crossover event with Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles. Yes… it’s bittersweet.
