Ancient legends and mythical monsters have been used countless times for videogame story lines and that’s no different for virtual reality (VR). The most recent of which is Guru Games’ new experience Medusa’s Labyrinth VR which has just launched on Steam for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
Set in ancient Greece, Medusa’s Labyrinth is a mythological first-person horror title where players have to navigate the dangerous and claustrophobic hallways of the titular character’s lair. Immersing players in a story centuries old, they’ll have to use stealthy prowess whilst utilising what few precious resources are available to survive the labyrinth, its horrifiying inhabitants and discover its sinister secrets.
“From the beginning we’ve always thought that Medusa’s Labyrinth would be a terrifying experience on VR”, said CEO of Guru Games, Daniel Strom in a statement. “It’s a great use of the technology to completely immerse you in this creepy environment and really make you jump out of your skin. We highly recommend it to horror fans”.
With resources at a premium, players have to chose between lighting the way with a flaming torch or arming themselves with a bow and arrow. To aid the immersion of the horror experience the videogame doesn’t include a HUD, health bars or an inventory screen to distract players. If they want to see how many arrows they have left then they’ll need to look into their quiver.
