Orboot, the augmented reality globe, allows children to visit the world from their home, through the use of modern technology.
While Pokémon was the craze last summer, augmented reality isn’t just confined to fun and games.
This 10-inch diameter globe works with a tablet or smartphone device which allows children explore the world like never before.
Working with the Orboot app, users can hover over different locations around the world and learn about facts in 8 categories including culture, inventions, monuments, natural wonders, geography, weather, and cuisine.
Information is passed through stories that include interesting facts as well as 3D models.
Voice-overs and cultural music offer kids a fully immersive experience all while playing in their homes. Children can also help feed an elephant, celebrate the Chinese New Year and explore Yellowstone all in an afternoon.
The globe and app feature every country in the world providing kids from pre-school through middle school with new learning opportunities. Orboot can be used by multiple users simultaneously encouraging children to play together while learning independently.
Orboot globe applies the STEAM method of learning to ensure children are mentally stimulated with subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics.
This smart globe stimulates children’s cognitive and creative development in a fun and interactive way. Orboot has received high praise with TechCrunch admiring the use of a physical toy combined with clever technology:
“HAVING A GLOBE IS A GREAT IDEA AND IT TURNS (PLAYTIME) INTO A HANDS-ON ACTIVITY RATHER THAN ANOTHER SWIPE-FEST.”
Unlike ebooks or computer games, the child is encouraged to learn through interactive adventures with the themes that they chose. The globe can also help children improve vocabulary and development confidence through their independent learning. Puzzles and games keep kids involved and always discovering new adventures.
Orboot is created by Play Shifu Technologies, a Wyoming start-up founded in 2016.
Co-founders Vivek Goyal and Dinesh Advani were inspired to create an interactive globe from their childhood experiences:
“IN OUR CHILDHOOD, WE ALWAYS HAD DIFFICULTY IN VISUALIZING THE EARTH WITH ITS MANY COUNTRIES, STATES AND BORDERS. WE THOUGHT; WHY NOT SIMPLIFY IT FOR THE YOUNG ONES! COMBINING IT WITH THE LOVE FOR TRAVEL, THE TEAM BUILT ON THE IDEA OF ‘AROUND THE WORLD’”.
Orboot is currently on Kickstarter and surpassed its $15,000 target, receiving over $45,000 of backing at the time of publishing.
The funds will go to create the first 500 globes as well as fund research into the cultures that will be presented within the app, hire professional voice-over artists and create more puzzles and games.
