A guide to get the most out of the VR experience.

There's a new experience available for The Hollywood Reporter's recent roundtable discussion with this year's top animators: Viewers now can experience the conversation via virtual reality.

Here's an easy-to-follow guide to get the most out of the VR experience.

For Desktops

Most desktop computers and browsers are able to support 360-degree playback. Load the video and, with a simple left-click, hold or drag of the mouse, you can change your perspective. Don't feel like dragging your mouse all over the place? Just use the directional pad in the top-left corner of the video and scan the room.

The directional pad in the upper right corner allows you to shift your view on desktop. It is recommended to use the 4k quality setting for the video, but the quality can be adjusted by selecting the gear icon in the bottom left corner.

It's recommended to watch the video in 4K (2160s), but if you find playback too slow, simply decrease the quality until you find the optimal setting for your hardware by clicking the gear icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the player, clicking quality and selecting your desired setting. For full immersion, headphones are recommended.

For Phone/Tablet

First, if you don't already have it, download the YouTube app.

Second, make sure that you are connected to Wi-Fi and that the portrait-orientation lock is off. For the best view, your screen should be able to rotate horizontally.

Click this icon to unlock portrait orientation on an iPhone.

Third, open the YouTube app, find THR's channel and open up the VR video.

Finally, once the video is loaded on your screen, you can use the three dots in the upper right-hand corner to open a menu, which allows you to select the quality setting. If, for some reason, the viewer does not automatically rotate to full screen with your phone, you can click the icon in the bottom right-hand corner that looks like four corners to enter full-screen mode. A small white dot will act as your cursor, which can be oriented by panning and tilting your screen and can be clicked to play/pause the video.

Click the three dots in the upper right corner to readjust the quality settings. The goggle icon on the bottom left will switch to cardboard viewing.

Cardboard

You can also use Google Cardboard to experience the roundtable in VR. To exit this viewing, select the arrow in the top left-hand corner. Select the goggles icon in the bottom right-hand corner, and your player will switch to the following layout.

Clicking the goggle icon will result in this view for cardboard users.

Inexpensive Cardboard alternatives also can be purchased directly from YouTube.
