UK: Museum Shows Xmas Day Fire Rescue VR Film
December 15, 2016

A virtual reality film depicting a real-life Christmas Day fire will receive its UK premiere today at a new pop-up museum.

London firefighters rescued six children from the house fire in 2012, leading to Crew Manager Paul Rich being named firefighter of the year.

The film, produced by BBC Research and Development, transports viewers via VR headsets to a flame-filled bedroom, witnessing the sights and sounds of the fire and screaming children.

London Fire Commissioner, Ron Dobson, said: "This remarkable film is the most realistic representation of being at a real fire that I have seen.

"We have never been able to show people what it's really like before so this is an excellent way to highlight the dangers and difficulties our firefighters face at the scene of a fire."

The film will be shown at London Fire Brigade's pop-up museum in Lambeth.
