Later this month the UK B-Boy Breakdancing Championship World Finals will be taking place in London and VFX company Digital Domain will be livestreaming the event in 360-degrees.
The livestream will give viewers front-row access to the dance floor for the annual competition, with views from the judge’s table. It’ll be hosted by Crazy Legs of the Rock Steady Crew and Africa Islam of the Universal Zulu Nation, the competition will also feature a special performance from hip-hop legend Talib Kweli.
“There’s nothing like the thrill of witnessing these b-boys and b-girls do their thing live, and virtual reality is the next best thing to being there on the dance floor,” said Hooch Whittle, CEO of the UK B-Boy Championships. “Through our work with Digital Domain, we’re presenting more than just a livestream. This is a fully immersive experience that puts hip-hop fans in the midst of a showdown to determine the world’s greatest.”
“Breakdancing culture has seen a resurgence in popularity around the world, and VR offers a deeper and more immersive way to connect with the performers,” said Alireza Saifi, Vice President of Global Business Development, Digital Domain. “The B-Boy Championships are a mainstay of the freestyle dance circuit, and we’re happy to help spread hip-hop culture to more fans than ever through our industry-leading interactive technology.”
