SAN DIEGO — Steven Spielberg, the grand poobah of nerddom, stopped by Comic-Con Saturday to reveal the first trailer for his upcoming movie Ready Player One.
"It was like the most amazing flash forward and flashback at the same time," the director said of the film, an adaptation of Ernest Cline's sci-fi novel.
The movie is set in a dystopian future and centers on Wade Wartts (Tye Sheridan), an Ohio kid who taps into the OASIS, a virtual-reality escape from the world full of pop-culture references like the Iron Giant, Freddy Krueger, ostriches from the video game Joust and the DeLorean from Back to the Future.
The cast also includes T.J. Miller, Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn. "If you turn up to work and Steven Spielberg is your boss, come on," Mendelsohn said. "Everything is gravy after that."
