The 'Person of Interest' grad was among the most sought-after actresses this pilot season.
Sarah Shahi has picked her pilot.
The in-demand actress has been tapped to star in NBC drama pilot Reverie, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From the team behind CBS' Extant, Reverie is a grounded and dramatic thriller about a former detective (Shahi) specializing in human behavior who is brought in when the launch of an advanced virtual reality program has dangerous and unintended consequences.
Person of Interest grad Shahi will topline the drama as Mara, a rough around the edges college professor of interpersonal dynamics who used to be a hostage negotiator. She is brought in to help save the people affected by the dangerous consequences of Reverie, the new, immersive virtual reality program. She suffers from PTSD ever since she witnessed her brother-in-law kill her sister and niece.
Extant creator Mickey Fisher will pen the script and executive produce the Universal Television drama. Amblin Television's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will reunite with Fisher and exec produce. Fisher's manager, Brooklyn Weaver, also will exec produce.
Shahi was heavily courted across multiple broadcast networks for drama pilots this season and fielded several offers. Last season, she starred in CBS' Nancy Drew reboot that was ultimately passed over. Repped by CAA, McKeon-Myones and attorney Neil Meyer, her credits also include episodes of Fox's Pitch this season as well as USA Network's Fairly Legal and Showtime's The L Word. Shahi's casting brings her back to NBC after having previously starred in the network's drama Life opposite a pre-Homeland Damian Lewis.
