Virtual reality has been quite a success since its introduction to the mainstream gaming but devs have largely ignored the sports games for VR. Well, that might change with NBA 2K17 as the game might come to virtual reality platforms such as PSVR or Oculus Rift.
Some new trophies list for NBA 2K17 has been leaked by Exophase, the new achievements are 13 in total. However, these new achievements do not point towards the full game coming to virtual reality platforms but a series of mini games that will be made virtual reality compatible.
The achievements refer to Party events, three-point shooting challenges and time attack modes to be playable in virtual reality.
While NBA 2K17 will be the first sports game to be playable in virtual reality but it certainly will not be the last as PlayStation 4 exclusive Gran Turismo Sport will also be playable in PSVR.
However, Gran Turismo Sport will not be fully playable in VR. Polyphony Digital President Kazanori Yamauchi has confirmed that Gran Turismo Sport will not be fully playable in VR and will have VR Tour game mode instead. This means that players will probably not be able to race with the VR headset plugged in.
Speaking of VR, recently a research specialist firm, Superdata, predicted the total number of units of VR headsets that will be sold by the endo f 2016. According to the firm, PSVR will sell over 2 million units by the end of the year, Samsung Gear VR is also predicted to sell over two million units.
However, things are not looking much bright for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift as the firm has predicted that HTC Vive will sell 420,108 and Oculus Rift will sell 355,088.
