Chris Milk's 'Within' Launches First VR Series

There was a call for more virtual reality content last week during CES, and this morning, VR firm Within responded with the launch of its first original VR series, The Possible.

The five-part series -- a look at scientific and technical innovation — was directed by David Gelb (Netflix seriesThe Chef’s Table) and produced by June Cohen. Funding was provided by GE with additional funding from the Sloan Foundation; and Mashable, presenting partner, created two related video series to support the launch. Within's production arm, Here Be Dragons, provided production support.

The first episode, which debuts Thursday through the Within VR app, is titled “Hello Robot” and takes viewers inside the Boston Dynamics lab for a look at robotic species. That will be followed by “Listening to the Universe,” “Speed Machine,” “Space Balloon” and “Hoverboard."

Three of the additional episodes will roll out in the coming weeks with the final episode scheduled to premiere in the spring at the Tribeca Film Festival. At the conclusion of each episode, viewers may view GE-createdFighting Fire with Fire, a VR film showcasing an experiment in material science.

"Behind every innovation is an artist with a unique vision for the future. The Possible takes us closer to these technologists, their inventions, and their visions, than ever before," said director Chris Milk, founder and CEO of Within, in a released statement.
