Vive X to open online applications for its fourth batch on 3/31 and expand operations to support European startups with a sixth location in London

Shenzhen – March 15, 2018 – The VIVE™ X global accelerator program will hold three separate Demo Days in Taipei, Shenzhen and San Francisco, total of 26 Vive X teams focusing on various VR/AR related fields demoed their innovations to over 400 investors and industry partners during the three events over the course of March. The Shenzhen event marked the first China Vive X Demo Day jointly held with the Virtual Reality Venture Capital Alliance (VRVCA), a global investor organization comprised of 50 of the world’s leading VR/AR investors. During the event, 17 teams from Vive X and 8 teams selected by VRVCA presented and showcased their innovations focusing on various VR/AR related fields such as core technology, software/applications, content, advanced UI and hardware devices. During the event, Vive X also announced to expand its operations to Europe for the first time by opening a sixth location in London, beyond its five current locations of Taipei, Beijing, Shenzhen, San Francisco and Tel Aviv, to further realizing its mission to nurture the best teams in VR/AR and advance the industry on a global scale.

As the most active investor in the VR/AR industry, Vive X has invested in more than 80 start-ups in the past two years across consumer and enterprise applications, immersive content, foundational technologies and AI-driven solutions. For batch four, Vive X will place an extra emphasis on 5G-integrated VR/AR and solutions that leverage the new generation of standalone devices, location-based entertainment, VR education and enterprise solutions, as well as technologies that enable more natural usage models for future devices. Batch four will  be opened for new applications on http://vivex.vive.com starting from March 31st, with May 30th, 2018 as the final deadline; early applications will be given priority in the selection process.

“The first three batches of Vive X helped identifying and supporting many startups that have already created broad impact with truly innovative solutions that solve core industry issues,” said Alvin W. Graylin, China Regional President of Vive, HTC and President of VRVCA. “We are proud to have played a key role in nurturing the VR/AR startup ecosystem over the past two years. As the industry shifts to higher gear in 2018, Vive, Vive X and VRVCA will increase our efforts to assist the passionate founders with whom we work to reach new heights and accelerate their innovations to market.”

During the event, VRVCA also published its 2018 Annual VR/AR Investment Report today in cooperation with China Venture, UploadVR and MoguraVR, which includes key investment study data from all the major VR/AR markets as well as interviews with investment partners from over 20 leading venture firms to provide unique perspectives and insights on market trends and opportunities. Despite some views of a 2017 “VR winter”, global VR/AR investments actually grew in 2017 to reach an all-time high of almost $3 billion; financing challenges mostly affected startups at the angel stage, with overall deal count and size increasing year-on-year.

Looking forward to 2018, almost 90% of investors expect total VR/AR funding to increase or remain at 2017 levels. The report concluded that new investment opportunities will likely increase with the consumer adoption of lower entry barrier all-in-one VR/AR devices, a new generation of PC VR devices that enables greater enterprise applications, phone-based AR solutions that push the boundaries of immersive technologies and the imminent global deployment of 5G networks that will make Cloud VR/AR a reality. Startups focusing on VR/AR who seek to join the alliance, as well as sign up for coming events can apply at vrvca.com/.
