Ubisoft Program Backs Blockchain & AR Startups

Ubisoft has welcomed four participants for the second season of its start-up programme with business incubator Station F.

The scheme aims to support entrepreneurs working on exciting games-related technology with a five-month personalised schedule that enables them to interact with Ubisoft employees and partners.

Two of the start-ups Ubisoft is supporting are working on projects in augmented reality.

One company, Mimesys, is exploring the future of long-distance communications with holographic AR and VR meeting platforms. The other is Panda Guide, which developed an augmented reality headset aimed at increasing the autonomy of people suffering from visual impairments.

The initiative is also backing two start-ups in the blockchain space.

IExec is building a virtual cloud infrastructure that offers on-demand, high-performance computing services that it hopes will prove useful in the fields of AI and big data.

Azarus meanwhile hopes to develop protocols and solutions dedicated explicitly to the games industry.

Start ‘em up

"Although we have been in business for more than 30 years and now have more than 13,000 employees, Ubisoft is proud of its roots and has not forgotten that its very own adventure began as a start-up,” said Ubisoft executive director Alain Corre.

“We are still driven by the same enthusiasm to develop creative and innovative gaming experiences. By supporting start-ups, Ubisoft hopes to encourage the emergence of new ideas, projects and entrepreneurs that will help shape the future of entertainment, all together.”
