Qualcomm, Tencent Build VR Innovation Center

Qualcomm, through its subsidiary, Qualcomm Wireless Communication Technologies (China), announced partnership with Tencent’s Interactive Entertainment Group (IEG) to design new immersive mobile user experiences in gaming and entertainment.


The collaboration includes the development of virtual and augmented reality applications powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor and a joint innovation center.


In an official statement, Adrian Ong, vice president of Qualcomm China said the relationship will utilize the best of both companies’ technologies and engineering expertise.


Earlier this year, Qualcomm announced its new virtual reality reference platform Qualcomm Snapdragon VR820 and super fast modems to bring better Mobile VR experiences in future smartphones. Named as Snapdragon X16 LTE, the new modem series are capable of reaching download speeds up to 1 Gbps.


In September 2016, Tencent’s shares hit an all-time high in Hong Kong, amid growing optimism that virtual reality and advertising revenue will accelerate the company’s future growth.
