After posting about breaking his neck while playing VR, the personal Facebook account of Redditor u/vibing-like-1776 was randomly deleted by Facebook and his Oculus account and games are all gone..
Below is an excerpt of fellow Redditors' reactions to his misfortune.

is there any way to get the games back or my Facebook account? I’m not sure if it was because of what I posted but I had about $300 worth of games and I find it ridiculous that Facebook has the right to do something like this. All my livestreams and videos are gone, including the oneS where I was complaining about my neck pain before I broke my neck...There was no reason that I can think of that would have caused this besides my post yesterday that gained some traction

Sounds like you should get an attorney and see if destruction of evidence is a possibility.
Absolutely Facebook/Oculus would make a case for negligence on your part for ignoring the pain and continuing to play (ending any destruction of evidence claims, which would already be on uneven ground), and the health warnings within the TOS for the system and games will come into play, but preventing you from accessing data that would have assisted a doctor could be a possible angle of legal action you could take.

I would speak with your local consumer protection/advice authority and personally would try to contact a reputable news with that story (provided it is true). If they want to leave you with ashes, make sure they choke on the smoke would be my philosophy.
Unfortunately the company will do nothing unless there is some kind of a backlash where they can calculate potential loss of profit from bad publicity. And a story like this should be capable of doing that if it reaches enough people.
This is assuming you have not done anything to actually have your account deleted and you fully belive without a doubt that your account is most probably gone due to your post about the injury. Definitely speak to your local consumer protection agency if you live in a country that has one.
Overall keep it in mind that it is $300 and if it is worth the hassle, and I don't know if your news agency would pay you for your story either as I've known them to do so locally but we live in different countries.

This is why you should buy games from Steam instead. They don't randomly ban and they will work on any future headset. Facebook will always do predatory stuff like this, it's in their nature.

I really wish someone from Facebook would see this and try to make a news story out of it by giving you some huge credit. Lol
Maybe try posting on social media, like Twitter and Instagram and try to go viral with it. Contact a few youtubers to pitch your story. It could be cool Just throwing ideas out there

They have an AI check new accounts so lots of VR users have been getting banned just because the AI is false flagging them as bots.

Reason nr 466 for me not to buy any games from the Oculus store anymore for my Quest 1. I'll be using it without a Facebook account until 2023,then, if they still be able to pursue the line that I must connect my FB account, I will then just stop using it altogether.
I will never ever buy anything from Oculus again.

If you buy a product and buy games to use that product, what consumer rights do you have to play the games you bought on the hardware you own?
This is the tip of the iceberg on another issue of Right to Repair. Companies like Apple, John Deer, and Oculus want to sign you into their products and tell you you're merely leasing access to their platform and there is no ownership.
That's BS. Shit like this makes me angry.

It's ridiculous that anyone on the platform can basically willy-nilly get banned for doing nothing wrong. What makes it even more frustrating is that Facebook doesn't even tell you the specific reason for the ban, you're just met by a placeholder "Your account has been disabled for violating Facebook's Terms of Service", which encompasses anything from enciting violence and hate speech and targeting other users, to selling drugs (and even then, how does the system discrimate between a satirical or negative (albeit constructive) message or post, from someone with actual ill intentions?). So basically, you don't have any foundation at all to say "No, this is what I meant by x or y comment", because now you're left with a banned account and no explanation why. Combine that with one of the worst customer support systems in existence and boom, it's just shitty as a whole.
The number of false positive bans is a lot higher than what it acceptable, it's beyond moronic.

It may or may not be coincidence, but I regret buying a Quest 2.
I told myself I wasn't going to get one because of their shitty FB account requirement. I've had a Rift CV1 for three years and I absolutely love it, so I wish I could be happy to continue supporting Oculus.
I recently started doing fitness stuff in VR (BoxVR, Thrill of the Fight) to help me get in shape and realized I really need a wireless headset to do it right and Quest 2 is the only choice.
Now I'm seriously considering just canceling my order and dealing with the cables. Maybe even upgrade to a Reverb G2. I really, really hate this policy.
Hey u/oculussupport if you have most of a subreddit that's dedicated to your company pissed off at you and saying they won't support you anymore, you're probably doing things wrong. Pass the message on to Zucc.

Was your Facebook account really banned "for no reason at all" though?
(from a twitter comment) A note about this person: his sympathy story is on a number of Reddits, but he advocates gun ownership on the sketchy edge of legal, one comment on Reddit refers to a "deleted boog page" which would refer to the Boogaloo hate movement – if his FB the same then?..
Honestly this narrative that they banned your account because you posted about hurting your neck playing VR sounds like absolute rubbish to me.

level 2
3 points·1 day ago
I was playing population one It started with a slight pain in my back mainly near my left shoulder. I really only noticed it after play for more than an hour. Over the course of 2-3 days the pain got worse but I enjoyed playing pop one so much I was trying to play through it to get the last skin for the 12 days of chaos. I woke up on the 4th day, put my headset on. Played about 1-2 games, as I was playing my last game I threw my hand up to climb while looking up and I heard a big pop in the lower part of my neck.
I went to the hospital because I thought I dislocated something in my back and got a ct scan and my c7 vertebrae was fractured
The doctor explained that due to stress and strain on the muscle, ligament, tendons.. the accumulated stress was so much it caused a fracture. He said it was a possibility that the extra weight on the head plus the increase in “unnatural daily movements” contributed to the injury.
To be clear I’ve been playing 2-5 hours a day for about 3 weeks straight

OK that makes sense I downloaded the thrill of the fight I played literally the first two opponents I beat them but damn I had to take a break literally the next day it felt like I did full body PS 90 workouts I was fucking through but the next day I went back at it and I was able to beat the third guy I felt great about that but the next day I felt even worse LOL just a testament to how unhealthy I am I’m a little skinny guy I weigh 128 pounds but I’m 40 years old and I’m not used to boxing that’s for sure a true testament to the game itself it is fun as hell and I recommend it to anybody but my condolences to your neck

Facebook officially turned occulus into big brother. You say something occulus doesn't like? Death (of your account and all your games).
It's the equivalent of getting the forbidden texts copypasta whilst in china.

Hire a lawyer. Seriously. They are keeping it quite so as to not hurt their reputation. These are the little things that turn into huge problems once they get too much power.

Hey, where’s the brigading assholes that usually show up to call OP a liar and talk shit?
Did those Facebook shills stop or have I simply not scrolled far enough down yet?

I have seen you post everything from doctor's recommendations to messages from Facebook about your banned post, but you never put down what you actually posted. Am I missing something?
Could you have been banned for being a part of a terrorist hate-group?

I feel like if Facebook never bought out Oculus in the first place we wouldn’t be here. Facebook is absolutely corrupted to hell and back. We’ve got Facebook forcing us to make Facebook accounts, forcing us to use their services for everything, and now this? Honestly disgusting. I do hope you get your games and your accounts back, and I wish you the best of luck with recovering.

because of totalitarian shit like this, Germany is actually in the progress of breaking Facebook and oculus bondage.
also why I don't buy games from streaming services, cause of their bullshit regulation of keeping possession of what I paid for.

isn't it funny how the broad media (tv) doesn't care about this, but if you had died because of your broken neck (even though it was because of a strained muscle) they would have attacked vr and probably scared off thousands of possible customers with headlines like "innocent man killed by vr headset" or some stupid stuff like that

Just another reason for the US and Germany to sue Facebook. This is like saying you slipped in walmart and broke something and Walmart banning you from all stores and coming and taking your groceries back.
Just because it gets traction and may make some people think it's dangerous, which in reality it is somewhat dangerous given you can't see your surroundings, but it's the nature of business. You can't just silence people who may hurt your business, get better don't get even.

Sorry this happened to you. I own a first gen Rift and after getting notified by Oculus that I only have a limited time to continue using my device until I’m forced to sign up for Facebook, I bit the bullet and got an Index. Anyone buying a Facebook/Oculus product at this point is saying that that are ok with this behavior by the company and they have it coming. Voice your disapproval with your wallet and take your business elsewhere. That is the only real way to avoid it.
