Now You Can Review 3D Models In AR On Zoom
February 12, 2021

If you’ve worked in a professional setting during the global pandemic, you’ve probably become quite familiar with Zoom, Teams, WebEx and other video conferencing software platforms. But if you’re working with 3D models – it has been nearly impossible to collaborate within these tools beyond a virtual screen share where one person is at the helm. Arvizio, a mixed reality and collaboration technology company, has announced a new product that makes collaborating in augmented reality on 3D models possible over these (and other) popular video conference tools.

Arvizio have announced their Immerse 3D solution to share and interact with 3D models in augmented reality (AR) when using collaborative web meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. With this new capability, users can now use their team meeting as a planning and review system while viewing the same CAD, BIM, or other 3D models, visualizing the digital twins in AR.

With virtual meetings becoming the new normal, this capability could enhance workflows for the many industries who work with 3D models. Jonathan Reeves, CEO of Arvizio, envisions this capability as one that will change how project reviews can be delivered.

The Immerse 3D solution is made of three parts; a PC or serve application, an immersive app, and the Arvizio Cloud service that enables synchronization and collaboration of content.

The meeting organizer can launch a session from the Arvizio Director application, which generates a QR code that can be shared with team members over the web meeting. The 3D models are then pushed to all the participants in real-time, without each user needing to download them individually. While in the meeting, participants can mark up and discuss the models together, and they are cleared off the client devices once the session has concluded so that they do not take up the space on the device.

This 3D streaming is made possible through model optimization and efficient WAN transport capabilities to provide efficient data compression and parallel loading of large data sets to multiple AR clients.

Arvizio’s Immerse 3D can be used on a variety of meeting platforms with screen sharing capabilities including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, BlueJeans, Amazon Chime and Google Meet. The device app is available for Apple iPhone and iPad, Android phones & tablets, Microsoft HoloLens 2, and Magic Leap devices. In addition, Arvizio’s Immerse 3D interfaces to popular cloud, or on premise, IoT data hubs offering the ability to integrate and associate live IoT data with objects in 3D models to create an operational digital twin.
