The Chinese virtual reality company Nolo VR has unveiled a new ODM standalone Virtual Reality headset which is designed for mobile networks, brands as well as other companies looking to get into the market.

The device will be launched at the CES 2021 which is only a few days away. Like last year’s tech events, this year’s CES event will also make adjustments for the pandemic.

Many enterprises are currently gearing up for an avalanche of Zoom calls as the pandemic continues precipitates tough lockdown and remote working measures and Nolo VR is unveiling a host of new products. Its new standalone all-in-one VR headset will make a debut at this year’s event.

The device doesn’t have any product name at the moment and is merely being referred to as a 6DoF Inside-Out All-in-One VR headset. The new device is an ODM solution and is developed for brands, mobile networks as well as companies making an entry into the market.

The new headset leverages Nolo VR’s SodarTraq ultrasonic positioning technology along with a dual-camera SLAM solution for the device’s 6DoF tracking. The system also features accompanying controllers that have button configurations similar to those found in the Vive Cosmos and Oculus Touch designs.

Nolo VR hasn’t revealed the actual specifications of the new device such as its screen resolution or battery life. However, the VR company has stated that its ODM solution will support companies’ brand customization needs like differentiated configuration and regular/short-focus display among others. The design will most certainly come in various funky colors and will possibly be bundled with some future phone contract.

Nolo VR specialized early on in the development of 6DoF tracking accessories for mobile VR headsets like Daydream View and Samsung Gear VR. Since 2016, the China-based VR company has steadily grown its product portfolio.

Most of Nolo’s tech was featured during the 2020 CES event including a combination of three products; the Nolo N2, the 6DoF tracking solution Nolo CV1 Pro combo consisting of a smartphone-based virtual reality headset and a cloud VR solution. The whole package cost $200 and was built for streaming VR content onto VR headsets via 5G or WLAN connection. Nolo works with Chinese telecommunications companies for 5G streaming.

This yet to be named standalone VR headset was the company’s only unrevealed tech.

There is also the Nolo CV1 Air which is a 6DoF tracking kit for the Huawei VR Glass and similar virtual reality headsets.

There is also the Nolo X1 standalone VR headset, a consumer-focused VR device with wireless streaming for SteamVR. The Nolo X1 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR1 CPU and packs good specs: 96-degree FoV, 3GB RAM, 75Hz refresh rate along with a resolution of 2560 x 1440.

About the New Nolo ODM Device

The device can spatially catch the user’s head and hands. Its two front cameras provide the room tracking for the virtual reality headset while the self-developed ultrasound solution SodarTraq records the true controllers.

The device’s controllers are modeled on Oculus Quest with identical shape, number and arrangement of controls.

Since Nolo has kept the price and specifications of its new ODM headset secret, it is difficult to determine the performance of the device.
