The next event "ComicVket2" is scheduled to be held in early 2021.
Tokyo-based company HIKKY announced today that "ComicVket 1," a doujinshi event held in a virtual reality space between August 13 and 16, 2020, attracted 104,546 visitors from all over Japan and the world. 337 doujinshi circles and 60 companies participated in the four-day event to promote their latest works and products.
In the "Virtual Akihabara," a VR reproduction of the real Akihabara town, the participants were able to visit the event from their smartphone or PC as well as VR devices for free without any traffic expenses and waiting time. They enjoyed checking the newest doujinshi, limited-edition merchandise, and interacting with each other. The doujinshi works were able to be purchased by digital downloading or mail order.
The 60 restaurants and electronics stores that actually existed in the real Akihabara town lined up in a row in the virtual space to give shopping coupons to the visitors. Even in the current situation that the COVID-19 infection made it difficult for people to go outside and visit the street, this virtual event offered an opportunity to the stores to maintain contact with their customers.
Thanks to the success of the first one, the next event "ComicVket2" is already scheduled to be held in early 2021.
