Live out your Prince of Persia fantasies in a new Location-based VR title from Ubisoft.
The Prince of Persia franchise has lain mostly dormant for almost 10 years now, aside from a couple of small bits including a mobile endless runner. While it would be easy to assume Ubisoft have given up on the series, they’ve recently given fans a glimmer of hope that the beloved franchise has not been forgotten.
Less than a month ago a new Prince of Persia Twitter account was found. The account was only created in May and is seemingly registered to a Ubisoft email account. Now, Ubisoft have given us the first glimpses of their new location-based VR Escape Room, titled “Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time” in the form of four images.
The Prince of Persia VR escape room is the third in Ubisoft’s “Ubisoft Escape Games” series. The first two are based around games from the Assassin’s Creed franchise – Escape The Lost Pyramid which is focused on Assassin’s Creed Origins and Beyond Medusa’s Gate from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The escape games are “created and optimized for entertainment venues and are exclusively available in selected locations, such as escape rooms, VR arcades and theme parks.” They’re designed to be completely multiplayer and require a set up of multiple VR units, hence being limited to real world locations.
The Prince of Persia escape room will allow players to “experience time control” and will include mechanics allowing the slowing, stopping and rewinding of time. It’s confirmed to be set in the world of the incredibly popular trilogy of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Warrior Within and The Two Thrones.
Within the experience players are “summoned to the Fortress of Time by Kaileena to stop an evil Magi”. The game is set to be very team focused with players having to “work together and solve puzzles”. The puzzles will require those involved to “interact with objects in their vicinity, climb, and use certain powers, such as the time control.”
While this isn’t the mainline entry to the Prince of Persia series we’re all hoping for, it’s another step in the right direction. Ubisoft clearly haven’t forgotten about the franchise, so here’s hoping we’ll hear about a new entry at the next Ubisoft Forward event.
